We engaged a contractor because we are very sure of what we want (which also does not include any features or designs). We even went to Hafary to choose and take photos of the tiles we want... So it was a rather straightforward process of telling him what we want to change and his team executing it. In our case, there is not much need for an ID.

actually really depends on the contractor. sometimes the design you have in mind may not be what the contractor is capable of doing unless they have a designer to brief them. if you are not someone that particular with small details, generally contractor is fine but if you are, better go with a designer. anyway the price given to me by a designer cum contractor vs the price from a contractor is quite competitive, design+materials proposed are slightly different but overall i chose the designer cum contractor for better assurance. The contractor do what they were told but designer may recommend something you do not know yet you may like it.
