No sharks fin at wedding, how to tell guests?

I wont be having sharks fin at my wedding because i believe in 'saving the sharks'. How do i tell my guests nicely that we will have a replacement? Hope they wont be disappointed!

haha, i think they will be in for a surprise once they attend. Don't think I want to tell them in advance, later less people come LOL! I heard of some hotels providing this 'save the sharks' thing to print out and place on the banquet tables, or maybe put a note on the banquet menu?

    just saw it here: http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_738276.html

if only the older generation were more informed. actually i heard that sharks fin has a high concentration of uric acid, which is not good for them because it can cause gout. i'm also having this problem, glad to know that brides here care about the environment!

Yeah don't need to tell in advance. I think putting a note on the menu is a good idea.

I had my wedding in sep last year at GWP and did not serve shark's fin as well. Did not announce to guests but replaced it with a nice fish maw seafood soup that tasted somewhat like shark's fin, but was delightful in its own right.

I think that this generation should understand the reason for no shark fin, so there's no need to announce it.

shark fin is not a compulsory food in every wedding menu. You can ask your MC to highlight that the couple is saving the sharks, therefore no shark fins is served, but the best seafood soup or another soup that taste better than shark fins will be served instead.

I think it's great that you choose not to use sharks fin! I've already firmly told my parents beforehand not to expect sharks fin. I was thinking maybe you can replace with something as 'fancy' but not environmentally unfriendly? Good luck!
