    Restaurant or hotel?

hi brides, im comparing between having my ROM at a restaurant or hotel. hotel rates are slightly more expensive and quite hard to get booking for the more popular ones. I know a few restaurants that the food is better than hotel. which should i go for? confused..

I think key thing is, know your priorities..

Just to share, I did the following before I source and will decide on which one.

    1. I picked a few dates first. (dates are important to me, and the venue managers)
    2. Decide on a budget (as long as fiance says ok)
    3. Had a few ideas on the theme/type of wedding/food I want (i.e beach, garden, elegant etc)
    4. Plan guest list (easier to know which places can accomodate or not)
    5. Email all the places I had in mind and see which ones come up. (tadah moment)

If food is important, you can just shortlist a few places with good food. The layout and places may be important for some brides.

Quite serendipitous la.. I am more concerned about the feel of the wedding, not neccessary the luxurious feel, just prefer something modern. Fiance and parents both sides also flexible.

thanks for your input zyroo. i'm caught at a dilemma, have done the things you mentioned above and so far hotels and restaurants both can accomodate. but ive tried the food at restaurant like tung lok and hotels, and i find that restaurants the quality and variety is better. however i cannot get over it if i really hav it in restaurant, because all the while i imagine myself getting married in a grand hotel.. haha. i believe that's why many people still choose hotel over restaurant. internal battle..

I could tell you are more inclined towards the hotel. Hee.. Take hotel lah!

Seriously, the difference in food quality is not that much. There had to be a benchmark somewhere cos its the hospitality business.

People cannot remember the exact taste or dish. What they remember is the atmosphere and i think that is the precise feeling you want to create for yourself. Go with the heart cos its your show. If you feel shortchanged doing restaurants, don't. ALSO, you don't have time to eat also. ;) As long as its not so bad that they waste food. my 2 cents worth.

Lindah I am having the same feeling as you.
My fiance is a practical person he feels that we should not spend too much on ROM as we will not be able to cover the cost. For me the feeling of the event is important. Caught in a dilemma and the date is nearing.

if date is nearing, choose restaurant better. they're more flexible to your requirements.

If you will be holding traditional wedding after your ROM then I will recommend you just do a simple one at the restaurant. save up the money to hold some better during your traditional wedding.

But if you are just doing your ROM, then I would recommend you do at the hotel since its your dream.

if all else fails, consider your guest size. most restaurants can only fit to max 200 people, and that's quite a squeeze already. good thing about hotel is that you can possibly get the ROM room free with banquet booking!

Hotel rates can be cheaper than restaurant if you get them in a package-say the rooms car and food.

I think it really depends on your budget. If you have enough budget to go for a hotel venue and i you really want it, then go for . But if you're more inclined on saving money, you should go for a restaurant since there are also restaurants with great food, great ambiance and spacious rooms. ;)
