@ Candyrain.. Yes EC may be better than DBSS only if you are comparing the 2.... but.. once you get EC.. U can forget abt getting HDB next time.. N especially for young couples.. i think HDB is still a better choice.. U nv know what will happen next time..if you put in so much cash at your very first home..I would prefer to "upgrade" when I have the needs and when i have the means to do it... Imagine you get a small 3rm EC which is the same size as in square feet as a 4rm HDB @ at $790k (quoted from my friend who just got esparina) into of a 4rm hdb @ $350K approx... The one who got the 4rm.. can upgrade to a bigger flat with larger living area... but the one who got the EC may not be able to afford upgrading from a 3bedroom unit to a 4bedroom unit....so in comparision i think EC not worth...... I think EC will be out of my choices.. If i can afford it.. ill get a pte condo.. if cannot.. just get a flat.....There are also many restrictions for upgrading the moment u get a EC which is only semi-pte

our BTO flat will only be ready end 2013 earliest but we are planning the wedding for end 2012. will stay apart for 1 year as we both don't wanna stay with each other's parents.. do u all think it's a good idea? heard some old folks say it's not "good" for a couple to live separately after marriage. but shouldn't it be the couple's decision? though if their reasons are sound we might have to reconsider... hmm...

need to note that a 3rm EC offers the same as a 4-5rm HDB -- > both gives 3 bedrooms for the same area. the different nomenclature doesn't mean you get different things. it is true that there will be almost no chance to downgrade, so have to think hard about the commitment. the monthly payments will amount ot a huge >2k for a 40-yr loan. however, an EC will offer you much faster upgrading, reasons being it is allowing you to own a private condo in a shorter period of time. 10 yrs after you get the EC, it becomes private. for past ECs, the property prices increase by alot after this 10-year mark because foreigners are able to purchase your property. This increase allows you to be closer to upgrading further to an even bigger private condo, or even landed. Do note, that a 3-room EC is of a HUGE area for condos -- most condos are of much smaller areas, so EC is like the only chance you can get a condo for that huge an area for that price. Both BTO and EC will offer good investment opportunities since both are subsidized so you're almost confirmed going to earn many years down the road. the difference is how big you can afford, what you can afford, and if you intend to purchase other private properties in future -- with current rulings, you cannot do so while owning a HDB. but a EC can, since 10 yurs later it will be considered private, and young couples probably won't be able to afford a 2nd property with their own means within the 10 yrs.

Hmmm that's a little weird leh. then why do you want to get married if you don't intend to live together? then besides the official "husband and wife", you are no different from "boyfriend and girlfriend" or "fiance and fiancee" isn't it? how about shifting the wedding for 2013 so that you can move into your own nest right after the wedding? another alternative if to rent a place before you move in...

We are fortunate to have our home ready 3 months after our ROM. We plan carefully to make sure that happened

got married last nov and staying with hb and in laws..our new place will only be ready end 2013/early 2014

gotta travel really far to my workplace but i guess we all have to make sacrifices one way or another sometimes. u know it's all worth it when u cherish the extra time u get to spend with each other
staying apart after marriage just will not feel the same..
