Pros and Cons of a Destination Wedding

Destination weddings, weddings held at locations far away from home, have become more popular in Singapore. Today, this trendy alternative to an off-the-mill wedding venue allows couples to combine a traditional wedding ceremony, an intimate gathering with friends and family and an adventurous honeymoon for the ultimate wedding experience. If you’re not sure whether a destination wedding is right for you, here are a few pros and cons to help you decide.

The Pros

Complete Package

Tourism organizations and resorts have seen a great potential with destination weddings from early on, and have hence provided wedding packages to make such weddings stress-free to couples. As part of the package, wedding planning services are often provided to help you arrange all your wedding ceremony needs (e.g. cake, presider, marriage license, etc.). All you need to do is just to show up on the wedding day. You can even arrange recreational activities, like snorkeling, scuba diving, sightseeing, shopping, or sports, for your guests with your wedding organizer.

Avoid Stressful Family Situations

Since destination weddings require fewer guests, you can avoid the feeling of being “forced” to invite your long-distance cousin, or your uncle-in-law that is twice removed. All you need to do is invite your immediate family and closest friends to this romantic and intimate wedding celebration.

Wedding and Honeymoon in One

Out of the country wedding venues can double as a honeymoon getaway. After the wedding, you can spend some alone time with your new spouse and visit different beautiful places together.

The Cons

Some Friends and Family Members May Not Be Able To Come

With weddings far away from home, some invitees may find it impossible to attend because of expenses or the difficulty of leaving their work. Grandparents may not be able to travel as well due to sensitive health conditions. Let those important people know about your plans before getting tickets and making invitations.

Stressful Long Distance Planning

If you’re not getting married in a resort that offers a wedding planning package, you will have to plan everything from where you are by yourself. On problem you might face is that getting married in another country requires you to secure a marriage licensed from their authorities. If this is the case, you will have to hire a wedding planner who specializes in destination weddings.

With Everybody Around, Not Much Time For Honeymoon

If everybody arrives or leaves the venue on the same date as yours, you will probably not have enough alone time with your significant other. To solve this, schedule your leaving date a while after everyone has left. Or you could also arrive earlier since you need to prepare your marriage license requirements. If none of these works, look for interesting activities your entourage can do while you and your spouse spend some quality couple time.
