With Singapore’s fair weather all year round, it’s no wonder why many couples choose to have outdoor weddings, like what Sheena Liu and Wayne Lim did with their nuptials. The lovely couple took advantage of the beautiful, summer weather of Singapore and exchanged vows in an intimate, outdoor wedding at Suburbia, Sentosa on the 6th of July 2013. With Sheena’s experience on events planning and a little help from our friends in Assemble Happiness, their decorations looked as enchantingly beautiful as the garden of Suburbia.
There are some encounters in our daily lives that we never thought would last forever, like what happened to Sheena and Wayne. Sheena, a marketing manager, and Wayne, a shipping agent, first met at work three years ago. “Wayne was my client and we clicked instantly because he was so funny,” Sheena remembers with enthrallment. Never did she though that she would be romantically involved with Wayne, who was at that time just one of her many clients.
After a few more meetings at work and knowing each other better, Wayne realized how much the young lady affects him romantically. So, to show his admiration to Sheena, Wayne made his first move by surprising her with her favorite Lego as his Christmas gift to her. Because of this, Sheena became very impressed by the thoughtfulness of the gentleman, and from there, the special connection begun.
Wayne’s marriage proposal to Sheena was like a scene straight out of a movie – sweet and romantic. With the help of 26 friends, Wayne surprised Sheena with a proposal that she will forever remember.
On the 15th of September 2012, Wayne took Sheena out. Never did the young lady thought that in that very day, her better half would be professing his intentions of forever to her. Wayne caught Sheena clueless of the events happening around her. The areas near Takashimaya, Paragon, and Orchard were decked with a couple of banners and there are people giving away pink heart-shaped balloons. “I was still in the dark until I saw the banners,” Sheena recalls. As they were approaching their destination, Sheena saw a 5-meter long banner, saying “I LOVE YOU, SHEENA,” and another 10-meter long banner with the words “WILL YOU MARRY ME?”
The proposal look more romantic as the setting was filled with pink balloons distributed by Wayne’s friends. Vehicles and people passing by stopped to witness the grand proposal. Though feeling a bit shaky, Wayne managed to go on one knee, presented a gorgeous diamond ring, and proposed to Sheena. Sheena did not think twice and instantly gave her sweet “Yes” to her beloved. The romantic event concluded with sweet kisses and hugs, while people applauded the newly engaged couple.
“Fun and fuss-free” is how Sheena and Wayne described their wedding photo shoot. They had their photo shoot last March 2013 at Taiwan, Taipei. That time, the weather was cool, which made it easier for Wayne and Sheena to pose and look more natural in photos. In cute attires with matching Nike Air Jordan 3 sneakers, the bridal couple posed playfully and romantically in front of the camera.
“We wanted it to be less faces focused and more ‘feel’,” Sheena explained, “Thus, most of the photos are not much on our faces.” Their photos, courtesy of Raymond Phang Photography, ultimately shows the spirited personality of the love birds.
“I could do it over and over again!” Sheena excitedly said. Having been an event manager before, Sheena’s wedding planning was a lot easier and enjoyable than that of most brides’. From the theme to set up to table arrangement, Sheena, together with her fiancé and Lydia of Assemble Happiness, planned and decorated the wedding venue.
In a flash, the gardens of Suburban was filled with modest floral arrangements and a couple of quirky customized decorations made by the bride herself and a little help from Taobao. The casual affair looked more laidback, yet stylish, with frills, pompoms, laces, and flower petals as decorations.
Sheena and Wayne consider their wedding as one of the most triumphant moments of their lives. The couple felt blissfully happy with how everything turned out. The weather allowed their outdoor garden wedding to successfully happen without a fuss. Despite the shortness of the time of the wedding, which was only three hours, everyone had fun with the jam packed program.
Retro games and fun props were provided for everyone to use. The couple was pleased see their guests enjoy and make full use of the props they’ve prepared during dinner and for picture taking. Toys and props like bomb bags, five stones, Styrofoam planes, bubble balloons, and flag erasers were placed around the venue created an even more relaxed ambiance.
At the latter part of the wedding, as the sun was about to set, fire sparkles illuminated the place, and everybody took advantage to play with the firework. Of course, what is an affair without food? Sumptuous snacks were served to everyone. Since it was an afternoon wedding, Sheena and Wayne opted to serve finger foods and small and sweet treats, like biscuits, wafers, chocolates, cake and a selection of ice cream.
From the proposal, wedding photo shoot, to the actual wedding day, Sheena and Wayne showed their unique personality as a couple. No wonder why their guests were impressed, and expressed that their wedding is one-of-a-kind. The venue, courtesy of Suburbia, was another wedding element worth mentioning. The venue’s garden lend a very beautiful setting for Sheena and Wayne’s casual-themed wedding. Overall, the wedding was indeed a success and truly unforgettable not just for the couple, but for the guests as well. Sheena and Wayne ended the celebration of their love blissfully, and ready for their next life journey as Mr. and Mrs. Lim.
