how much to give for dowry

hm personally i dont know of any chinese who still give dowry, it's already so expensive to hold a wedding. if they insist, maybe about 10k? did they hint any amount before?

most people i know still give dowries... it includes jewellery, tables for banquet and cash. usually, what happens for the cash is that you give a lump sum (e.g. 10k) in notes, then the MIL goes to a corner, takes out a portion, and returns the rest to you. so don't be too concerned about the $$, coz they usually won't take too much -- will reflect greediness if they take 99% of the money!
