Dowry - Rules?

I'm a BTB and my in-laws are intending to give a dowry to my parents. Can anyone share your experiences on how it is done? Usually, what is an appropriate amount to give? thanks!

anyway, just to answer your questions quickly -- yes, dialect matters, but usually it's just what the bride's parents request.. sometimes they stick to the dialect, sometimes they just 'request' what they want to.. so you need to meet to discuss..
