Pre wedding in Paris!! - advice needed!

Hi all! I need some advices here! I have never thought of having a overseas pre wedding shoot due to the high cost incurred. I wonder if anyone has engaged a photographer separately from the bridal studio and could advise on the rental of gown, make up artist and other things to consider?

Thanks in advance!

i guess you can hire a photographer that's not from a particular bridal studio and for the rental of gown and MUA, maybe you can go to a bridal studio that can cater what you need and talk to them about their package that does not include a photographer.

Yeah, I am thinking of getting just the photographer. i think its more worth it considering that they are giving all the images back unlike bridal studio. I am hoping someone that has experience having their overseas pre wedding done this way can share some tips! Like bringing the rental gown overseas? engaging a MUA overseas instead of flying one over! :)

Some bridal studios have restrictions on the type of gowns allowed to bring overseas for shooting, need to check.

Overseas MUA especially in Europe are mainly Europeans who don't handle much Asian hair, plus communication on styles may be a little difficult. And their charges may not be cheap.

Thanks for the advice. my wtb is actually looking to have a more casual type of shoot. so i think we will do mainly the casual outfits. with gown, she will probably go as the ang mo style (let the hair down type) so i guess not a big problem. the only problem is don't know how much it will be. gonna do some research. we are planning to visit some bridal studios over the weekend!

I guess it would be better if you pick your MUA from your place. It would be much easier to communicate with your MUA.

If you only rent gowns/suits from the bridal studio, expect to pay a higher price as they can't earn photoshoot from you. That's what I heard.

Maybe once you are confirmed with the PG, you can suggest to the other 2 couples to share the cost of a MUA, anyway it's only for a day's shoot for each couple. Probably 2-3 styles max.

We are going to Paris.... haha, not sure if I want to 'fly' her there. I could probably use that money to get myself a much much better MUA :)

Yes, I heard to rent a gown/suits will be slight more exp. Actually.... my wtb was thinking of purchasing a gown from Vera Wang, but she is comparing with renting a gown as we will be heading down to a few bridal studio this weekend.

yeah, we thought about that too. but we have been googling online for MUAs in Paris, it seems to us it might work better if we engage them there.

Start to discuss with the selected MUAs and see which suits ur wtb better, thats the only way to minimise miscommunication when you guys are there. How much is the charges for a 1-day service?

ehh….. the one we wanted is about 800sgd for 1day service. but if we only require her in the morning and then in the evening its like 600sgd. but there are cheaper ones, so depends on budget and the style u like.

hey jewelbox. we have not done the shoot yet. it will be during march 2014. we have met up with the photographer and it was good! we should have no prob working with him :) I can only share my experience after my shoot in march. but so far, I have been hearing good reviews on them, and we do like their style. I will be visiting a few bridal studio this weekend for the gown rental or to purchase. Once we can confirm that, we will likely sign up with the shoot.

you shld really start planning soon. haha. they have an attractive promotion now for Paris, im not sure if you can find one at that rate next time :D

Hey Jonathan, I did my pre-wed shoot in Paris n Prague in May, I can say that the experience is fantastic & special but u will definitely burn a big hole in ur pocket. We spent abt 11K inclusive of air fare n accom in Paris n Prague. My breakdowns are as follows for your budgeting purposes:

-photographing service for 2 countries after ++ photos/canvas up size-$4300 (he charged us only S$800 for another country)
-rental of gowns-S$1500 (I will recommend u to buy else u hav to incur another sum for ur actual day)(I sell my gowns too)
-airtix to & fro Paris (Air France)-S$2200/2 pax
-airtix to & fro prague (Budget)-S$400/2 pax
-accom in hotel for Paris-S$500/2 pax for 3 nights
-accom in hotel for Praque-S$600/2 pax for 3 nights
-transport during photoshoot in Paris-S$200
-transport during photoshoot in Praque-S$50 (some places u can just walk over)
-make-up in Paris-S$380/1 style & make-up only.
-make-up in Prague-S$600/1 style & make-up only wif touch up service for 5 hours.

Hope that my breakdowns are useful for budgeting purposes.

Cheers

Susan
