My HTB and I bought our rings from Tiffany & Co. We opted for a dual-coloured (gold + platinum) pair which is simple yet elegant and classy and we really love it. We spent less than 5k for the pair. I really don't think price should be the deciding factor as you are going to wear the ring for life, choose one that makes you fall in love each time you look at it =)

Initially, both of us have the mutual agreement that we can only buy the pair of ring that both of us must fall in love with. If either one dont like it, we dont buy.

I feel... It doesn't really matter if my wedding band have stone or not. I dont really care so much about the stone, because I've already got a stone from him when he propose to me.

We walked many shops hunting for wedding band... Larrys, Love & Co, Lee Hwa, Goldheart, Soo Kee, Charlotte. Nothing impress both of us. It's either i like it, he dont like. Or he likes it madly, but i dont think so.

In the end, we fall in love with a pair with Gold + Platinum displayed at Tiffany & Co. But... It's kinda.... over budget. Sighh!!!

I dont think we could afford it for now. Haiss... So pathetic.

What I did was to go on certain websites such as vivodiamonds to do a comparison with the shops here. Eventually, I bought the diamond from a wholesaler via a jeweller and the setting was done by the jeweller. Retail jewellery shops will be good to go as an "education trip".

You definitely need to do some homework before you narrow down to the kind of rock you want. It is not neccesary that the bigger the carat means it will look better. I have seen some 1 carat cushion-cut ring that looks really out of proportion on a lady's (asian size 9) finger. So I suggest that you match your partner's finger size to the carat and cutting. And of course, the rest of the 4Cs (clarity and colour) too.

GIA certified diamonds should suffice, some wholesalers/ jewellers will try to sell AGS certified diamonds but honestly, I don't see much difference for the extra premium to pay for this AGS certification. When viewing GIA certified diamonds, take note of their serial number, you can verify their specs again when you go onto the GIA website. IMHO, simply comparing specifications are never enough, I feel that I still need to physically eyeball the diamond itself, for inclusions and that bling factor. ;) Hence, I will only use online sites such as the abovementioned or bluenile just as a price mirror.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm unsure about the seashell diamond ring.

And yes, i do have a charlotte. My HTB gave it to me during proposal. Simply love it. The sparks of the Gabrielle diamond is extraordinary. If you do not have the intention of "upgrading" or changing your ring, i think Charlotte is a good choice.

Some people might have the mindset of upgrading their stone into a bigger one in future. If you do have such mindset, then, Charlotte is not suitable.

For me, I'm very old-fashioned mindset one. Haha. i feel that proposal ring (with that expensive rock) is a gift, a request, a proposal to a woman to marry the man. So, i think i will not be selling, trade nor upgrade it. It will be forever. Because the proposal moment is just once in a life. The feeling, the "butterflies" in your stomach... it will never be the same again.

Wedding band... i do feel that i can always get another pair during our wedding anniversary (let's say 5 or 10years later). And the old pair? Keep it. It is a good memory for both :D

I have a friend. They buy a new pair of wedding band every year to celebrate their wedding anniversary. She says that this is like a "renew" to her marriage every year. To kept reminding each other the promises that they had made when they put the ring onto each other's finger wo. But not all people will do that la. Especially chinese. Hahahas...

Hi, don't mind if i ask how much does your charlotte ring cost? hehe...

If you were to ask me this question, i think i would have to dissapoint you. Because until now i still dunno how much does my proposal ring cost. Hahahas... He seems like he wanna hide it from me for the rest of his life like dat.

I think it depends on your choice of stone bah. A ring with 0.5ct stone and a ring with 1ct stone ring makes a big difference on the price lehhhhs... LOL!!!

hi ladies, just a simple question, how long before AD we should buy the wedding band?

Your ROM and AD will be on the same day?
Think there's no time frame cos you can always shop around.
Some rings might not have the sizes you want and needs time to custom made or alter.
And some couple wants to have engravings too...
All these needs time.

hi meilingg,

mine is different, I'll have my ROM first on Oct this year and AD maybe next year.
I mean that how long I have to buy before, becoz I heard that they need times to alter or resize or anything, so do you know how long it will take to resize or engraving? We don't want to buy it so early, we would like to buy it near our ROM date, but I'm not sure how near we should buy it.

What i heard from SK was if custom made sizes, it will be 3 months.
My ROM is next month and we just went to select our rings the week before. Needs 2 weeks to alter and engraving... So means we collecting this weekends.

Heard some got their wedding bands 1 year before their ROM.

hi meilingg,

thanks for your explanation. from what you said, i think we better buy the ring 3 months before so will have enough time to wait for them to alter and engraving it. Thanks alot, meilingg..... must be excited when you go to collect ur ring.

i checked out Love n Co Flagship shop at Raffles City (Cityhall),there are many designs and the prices are similar to what you can find in other jewellery shops like goldheart, Soo Kee and Lee Hwa. Perhaps you can compare with Soo Kee, Lee Hwa shops in citylink beside MRT then go up Raffles City 1st floor check Love n Co.:)
