We've decided on forever. (Split-Day-Edit)

Handmade weddings are getting more and more trendy nowadays, as many of us envision a Pinterest-inspired wedding for ourselves.
From Daniel & Michele's wedding, I realized that a hugely successful handmade wedding is beyond skin deep.
It is more than the superficial aesthetic look of it.

As Dan & Mich would tell you, "This kind of wedding isn't for the faint-hearted. You have to really want it as it takes so much planning and logistics." There is simply too much work for two to handle.
So they asked their family members, relatives and close friends to help them up with planning, designing, setting up, coordinating and lastly, hand-making the various accessories required for the church wedding.
From the Bride's+Maid-of-Honor's+Flower-Girl's bouquets (made of flowers purely built from paper), ring dish (self-made from clay), brooches (made of shuttlecock feathers and paper flowers), wedding ang-bao box (made of recyclable shoe boxes) and many more.

It became an opportunity to involve the people close to you in the preparation works for the biggest day of your life.
A time to catch up, reconnect and spend quality time creating stuffs together.
And to me, it's this process, not the eventual product, that makes the efforts and experiences of a handmade wedding beautiful and worthwhile.

As the word "Handmade" suggests, made by hand, not by machine.

(You can visit Michele Ng's blog at www.micheleng.com if you wish to find out more about the various handmade stuffs she did for her wedding.)

when we were young (Family Pre-Wedding Documentary)

In the recent year, we have many couples who didn't want a childhood montage yet would often make one because the elderly would prefer so. The birth of this concept video is our attempt to make childhood montage more engaging and more entertaining at the same time by having both Marcus and Jelinda's parents to tell funny stories about them when they were little.

Because we know all parents could go on forever when they are telling stories of their little ones when going through the old albums.

"When we were young,
we adored the fabulous.
When we were young,
we were the foolish fearless.
When we were young,
we didn't know it wouldn't last."

Noel+YingChun (Wedding Trailer)

The proposal happened at an unfortunate (yet extremely blessed) timing of their relationship. The love birds were supposed to visit Vietnam together, but they had a big fight before the trip. Ying Chun decided to go ahead with the initial plans and backpacked alone. She met up with a Vietnamese friend there, blissfully unaware that her boyfriend had already planned a surprise proposal, and that Vietnamese friend was his accomplice in the surprise proposal.

Ying Chun's friend arranged for a hotel stay for the both of them and Ying Chun thought that it was fishy that the hotel staff treated her like a VIP but didn't bother to question, even though she was led to a suite. The moment Ying Chun saw 2 stuffed toys on the hotel suite bed that belonged to her and Noel, she thought that he specially flew the stuffed toys to be with her, unaware that Noel was hiding in the room itself. He appeared out of the "hidden room" to surprise her and the couple started to laugh as they both knew what was going to happen next.

We thought that it was pretty unfortunate that Ying Chun had fell into a puddle of mud while cycling to the hotel and soiled her clothes. Noel even asked Ying Chun if she would like to take a shower first, before proceeding on to the proposal. And Ying Chun's reply was one of a kind!

Thankfully, everything went according to plan. The pleasant surprise was indeed the sweetest thing any guy can do for his love to seal their fate together.

the more we get together (Friendship Filmlet)

"Twenty years from now, I am going to look back and remember that you were that one person who could turn every frown into smile in a few simple words; that person who lifted my head when I was losing faith in myself ; that one person who carried tears on her shoulders after every fight, every breakup, every death; that one person that accepted every decision I made, who knew who I really was and that one person that made the biggest difference in my life... my best friend."

This is the first time our works was used as a birthday present and the first time we made a filmlet for another form of love and it had been a refreshing experience.
We also find it extremely encouraging when a fellow videographer/photographer engaged us to produce something for them. Because these are the people who have a higher demand for the quality of products.

A Better We (Same-Day-Edit)

And it all started from an ad many years ago when the connecting tone was launched...

The following is a quote from Ryan's interview:

"Despite her constant beatings and social abuse, Jessica always makes me happy. She taught me how to see life differently. You know, the simplest thing can make her happy and that to me is something I can learn from. I am not always a very… positive person. I see alot of negatives in life. But she shows me that little things can turn into positive ones. And, that taught me alot. That’s something I like about her. I actually grew into a better person because of her."

Ryan and Jessica complement each other, they function like best friends, and it is prevalent from the way they act around each other. They are madly comfortable in the midst of each other's presence. We notice how their hands always seem to interlock within inches of each other.
It is undeniable that they have a special connection with each other and how they are unquestionably soul mates and life companions.

Most importantly, Ryan and Jessica have this magical ability to make each other better people.

Our Sources (Split-Day-Edit)

Though the rain was heavy, and the weather was cold, I felt warm. From the inside.
Heart felt words was exchanged over the blessing and laughter of only those close to their heart.
There was something very beautiful and intimate about Shawn's vow. Though it had been months since the weddings was over, I could still resonate with his words whenever I watched this video. Perhaps, through little experience like this, through the beautiful love we captured, we learn a little bit more about love.
I would really like to thank this beautiful couple for including me in this beautiful journey. May the both of you have a blissful and happy marriage which I am very sure it would be.

"I once told you that you are simply good, that was five years ago.
Since, I have come to witness your many other virtues, but I maintain that goodness defines you. And it is this quality together with your strength that are the key sources of our relationship.
I will always care for those who you care for, I will always write for you as long as you promise to cook for me. You are the best thing that happened to me, you are the butter to my bread. So lets grow old, fat , ugly and bald. Together.

As with all journey, we must be reminded of our sources. As we reached this milestone, my gift is the un-withering commitment to you and your loved ones. As we know marriage is never just about the two people in love, more importantly I take this on at this stage when i try to be a source in your life. As i write, I am also rightfully reminded of the sources of our relationship.
Dewi, whenever two people come together, it's never easy, it shouldn't be easy. We have come a long way and I won't take for granted for what has been granted to me. With this, I dedicated my life and my love with all its luminous to ours, together ahead through the bad,the good and the ugly. Come what may."

The Right Choice (Same-Day-Edit)

"I've made a few wrong choices in the past.
And I'm so grateful to have met you.
You're the right choice that I want to stand by for the rest of my life.
I believe, through our union, we can accomplish more than I would alone."

Home (Pre-Wedding Family Documentary)

Blood is thicker than water. It is an undeniable fact, that can never be demolished through popular culture or social conditioning. We all start and end with family, the people who have seen you at your worst and celebrated with you at your best. The ones we turn to after each and every heartache, the ones who walk us down the aisle.

As children, we used to think that we were unique. We harbored the thought of being drastically different from the others. We pride ourselves on the things that sets us apart. Growing up, we begin to notice and accept the fact that there are countless similarities within us and our family members. Similarities that give us an identity and sense of belonging.

Through the informal interviews and conversations, we take a peek into Nicholas and Teresa's lives and find out more about who they were as children, as siblings and as lovers. Interestingly, these are the things that we might not even know about our closest friends or partners. We feel privileged to be able to get so close to them, documenting and telling their stories.

"As much as we enjoy creating pretty or glamorous work, we seek honesty in the things that we create. Creating works that represent who the subjects are will always remain our highest priority as we believe that this is the only way of creating documentations that is truly unique and irreplaceable."

Jason+Ivy (Wedding Trailer)

"Prior to meeting Ivy, Jason was a partner in the vice of drinking, mahjong, poker, horse racing, dog racing, snail racing, spider fighting.
You name it , we bet on it.
In fact.
You pour it, we'll drink it.
You roll it , we'll smoke it.

Jason, you are very lucky. This is your best bet ever. You leave here today gaining a partner in Ivy. Warm, loving and caring. Ivy, you are extremely lucky as well. You leave her today, with beautiful dress and flowers."

This is a wedding with beautiful friendships, truthful words and great humor. Guests that were there didn't seem to bother if they had work tomorrow. They were fully immersed in hearty conversations and alcohol, accompanying Jason and Ivy on their most important day of their lives. Cheers.

Love is... (Wedding Trailer)

"Have you ever wondered, what love is? How do you define love?

I think love is when your friend spend the entire week to do a very embarrassing video compilation of you, just to make you laugh during the wedding.

I think love is also when you sacrifice your 'pak-tor' nights just so that you can properly mark your students' scripts and painstakingly write down good advices for them, hoping that they will read it.

Love is when you endure a motorcycle ride in the rain, braving through the cold wind and shivering night. Just because the man you love is the one driving you home on that same motorcycle.

I think love is when you say you're wrong, just to end the argument. To put aside whatever illusions of who is right or who is wrong. Knowing that there are other things more important, than just winning the argument.

Love is when the mother cooks the most amazing tom-yum dish, just for you, when you return home from hall. Just so that you have the best dinner, knowing how hall food is so bad.

Love is when the mother sacrifices her king size bed for a smaller one, just so that you and her daughter can sleep on a bigger bed.

Love is acceptance and sacrifice. The acceptance of a man from a different culture, different faith. With his many weaknesses. To accept him into the family, solely because the daughter is in love with him.

So, what is love?
In the end to me, love, is these small things that you remember. The little imperfections, that make them perfect for you."

when we fall in love (Split-Day-Edit)

It was during the church service when Ariel expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards her parents and how much she wishes that her father could be here with her on her wedding day. I noticed how her mum, brother, sister and closest friends began to tear.

It was the first time we saw Ariel's emotions run free.

Believing in finding beauty in sorrow, we attempted to capture that precious moment and her words. Ariel's silhouette was backlit by the beautifully handcrafted tinted window, as she spoke about her late father. At that very moment, I felt a deep sense of peacefulness in my heart, knowing that her prayers are heard.

There certainly wasn't a dry eye in the room when the video was played during the wedding banquet. Her shaky, trembling voice was enough to churn up the feelings of those who knew her father, whom I believe was a great, loving father and husband. I can't express my emotions in another fashion, but it was undeniably a heart-warming sight for us, knowing that we had created something that was extremely dear to them.

This documentation is not simply based on the memories of Dong and Ariel, but also the memories of the people close to their hearts.

To Forever Together (Same-Day-Edit)

This is the story about a married couple getting married.
Having stayed together under the same roof before marriage,
Lanny and Shawn shared with us about their "marriage" as they revealed the quirks and worst habits of each other.

When two people come together, especially when under the same roof it is never easy. You begin to see the not-so-pretty sides of each other. In Lanny and Shawn's case, farting(the smelly sort) care-freely is one of the many. They were sharing so much bad habits that a fair bit of filtering was required and we could only include a few.

Instead of fighting endlessly, Lanny and Shawn celebrated their differences. They accept and embrace the quirks of each other.
It is not difficult to understand why this duo is getting married as they finish each other sentences and make fun of each other endlessly. It certainly felt more like a post-wedding shoot than a pre-wedding shoot for us.

At the end of the day it is important to remember; it's the little things that make a relationship last in the long run.
Love is the bad, as well as the better, not lived alone, but a journey together.

Him | Her (Wedding Showreel 2013-2014)

It's fair to say that as I write this, I'm feeling inspired and excited by what lies ahead. Firstly, AndroidsinBoots officially turns two today.

From working from home to owning a space where we can call our second home. From a one man show to a team of four which we would have a game of badminton every Tues.

Along the way, we weren't just photographers or videographers, we also became cleaners, plumber, accountants, interior designer, marketing manager and the list goes on.

And while the company was growing, we were maturing as artists as well. More so than ever, we seek to find meaning in what we do beyond the beautiful footages.

To feel. It’s all we are after.

It’s true for all the things we do, whether it’s cinematography/ photography or anything else. We want people to feel something. Nothing else matters. Few things make me more proud than when my work makes people feel so much they cry. It may sound horrible, but to make someone cry is a very powerful thing. In today's world, people build up facades, desperately trying not to feel, walking around pretending they 're people they're not. If anything we do can break down that barrier and touch your heart, the core of your being for a second or two, we have created a connection that’s very powerful.

And that’s what we are looking for, connection.

And this desire to connect probably explains our incorrigible perfectionism. Between 50-80 hours goes into refining an AndroidsinBoots film/a set of images. There's a story to tell, the style of wedding to capture and, of course, an overarching artistic tapestry to weave in. It's not a job for the flighty or impatient. But the rewards are more precious than gold.

Enough words for today, I shall leave the rest to the showreel.

*Some of the words were inspired and quoted from Jonas Peterson.
