I wont recommend tiff and co even if you can afford it. It's pretty nonetheless, but one of my friend, who is working in related industry, told me that the quality of the diamond is the same as those u find in Goldheart, Lee Hwa etc. It's only pretty because of the design, or, what we presume to be pretty because of the brand and that pretty tiffany blue box. So it's rather stupid to get one from there (if u are just wondering if the quality of the diamond is better) But for the design wise, yes, tiffany do have really pretty designs! But you can always get a diamond and customized it urself; will be much cheaper.

About diamond, you need to know about the clarity and colour. Clarity means the impurities in the diamond (those lil "black" dots that u see under the magnifier). IMO, i think that the colour is more important than clarity if u are not getting a big one (another smaller than 1 carat. IMO la) Because u wont be able to see the impurities and its not like ppl will look at ur diamond with a magnifier 24/7.

Colour is important to me because I dont want my diamond to look yellowish. I want it bright and sparkling! I think this is pretty obvious because u can see at first glance on whether the diamond is clear or not.

Next, there are the different kind of cuts. Some cuts are more expensive than others, which I dont know why, because they look prettier? But back to the point whereby ur diamond is just normal size, I dont find a point to get those cuts that are more expensive because no one will be able to see it. It will be just a normal diamond ring to anybody.

Anyway, I think the sales person will tell u alot more about it when u are getting one! They are really helpful and those that I've met really give me honest opinion. Not those kind that will ask u to buy the expensive one! Hope it helps :)

yah...like what pinnpinn has shared, at the end of the day, tiffany & co really about the packaging and the brand. in terms of diamond quality, other shops like Lee Hwa, Goldheart, Soo Kee, etc may not lose out when you compare them. some people also buy loose diamonds and set them maybe in the classic tiffany 6-pronged design. just need to go to a reputable and honest diamond dealer. :)

i believe it doesnt matter where you buy your diamonds (not blood diamonds, definitely!) as long as it comes with a reputable certificate.
the specs, which may differ slightly from different labs, should not make drastic difference.

as long as the spec is good, it is a good diamond!

but you can't really tell the source of the diamonds...i know of people who refuse to buy diamonds because you'd never know where they originate from...

that aside, i agree with magicdust - getting the diamond with a reputable certificate would be good. :)

ultimately, it's the diamond that counts, not the brand. imagine you wear a diamond ring out.. people will be wowed by the sparkle, the cut, the design, the size... not the brand! (you don't bring the box out everyday). so as long as you got a good diamond, it doesn't matter if it is from TnC, cartier, or leehwa, goldheart etc. In fact, the best option is to go to the private jewellers to make the diamond ring, coz you don't need to pay for the branding, you save alot more for the same quality and size of diamond. :)

agree with rojak. unless you are wearing the box out everyday with your ring (erm who does that? haha), then it's the quality of the diamond that will matter. and the diamond doesn't need to be from a jeweler. private jewelers can give you the sparkle and bling without costing an arm and leg.

I also agree on diamond rings need not be branded.. Tiff and co probably only have 1 signature knife edge 6prong engagement solitaire that is known world-wide... It's really beautiful without a doubt. but other than that, the other ring settings are just abt the same as any jeweller out there..

Paying for a T&C 0.5ct can get you a much better and bigger diamond with the same ring setting as T&C from a private jeweller.. I researched diamonds for over a year to come to this conclusion. However, some people still prefers the little blue box.. it's an individual choice I guess..

The most impt thing abt diamonds is the cut. Not how many facets but how well it is cut. It's better to have a triple excellent cut diamond which is not an D color than a D color but not cut to perfection.
Actually an untrained human eye can't tell the difference between the color D,E,F... So you can always opt for E or F or even G color to suit ur pocket but make sure the cut is excellent.

It's impt to have a look at the certificate of the diamond if it's >0.4ct so that you know where the flaws are and if it wil affect the scintillation/brillance/fire too much.. also.. all these technical info is just for shortlisting a few diamonds.. at the end of the day, it has to be the one that calls out to you. The one that you feel the most comfortable with when looking at it then that will be the one which you will buy without regrets. = ) Just my 2 cents.

Have you heard about the 4C's. Search for the meaning of these which is really beneficial while buying the diamonds.
I think you should also concentrate on diamond certificate from the diamond seller.

Hi girls! i would like to recommend JannPaul, for their diamond rings! like what pinnpinn says, the usual jewellery shops we see in malls are often tagged with expensive branding pricing, therefore we decided to custom make my diamond ring with a private jeweller.

during our 1st appt with JannPaul, they gave a really good tutorial on the things we need to know when choosing a diamond. i have already chosen the stone with the setting and is really excited to see the end product! u can visit https://www.facebook.com/JannPaulDiamonds to take a look at their diamonds.. i always feel very excited just looking at the photos! =D

I would say avoid Lee Hwa, Soo Kee. They are big brands in Singapore which consumers like us have to bear their advertising, marketing costs. I was recommended by a friend to One Ounce located at 112 Katong. New jewellery shop, no advertising, through words of mouth.
