Dear all,

I am a diamond newbie here. I intend to buy a proposal ring with a budget of 4K and below. Any recommendations ?

First, what you should do is to understand diamonds first. Which diamond shape, The 4Cs, etc. From there, you need to ask which 4C is important, and which you can sacrifice more. 4k is decent budget.

Once you understand diamonds, the next step would be to find a Jeweller.

Yeap, like what babyjyo had mentioned, do read up on the 4Cs 1st, but I would rate them in this manner:

1st. Cut
2nd. Colour
3rd. Clarity
Size is pretty much subjective?

But I think 4k budget can get at least a 0.5ct diamond

I'm quite new to this as well ahah started doing researching only recently.
Like I've mentioned in my previous post, I've been to a few major local retailers etc. lee hwa, citigems, tiffany & co. so on and so forth, frankly I would have learn or understand more about diamonds via my own online research haha

Their staffs are more like points of sale only, they wouldn't be able to give you more information besides the 4 Cs.

I suggest you can go to JannPaul, have a session with them and you will understand there's actually much more than just the common 4Cs

I just went to jannpaul located at far east shopping center yesterday.... Totally impressed by their great service.... I will definitely recommend all my friends who is looking for diamond to go ahead , make an appt with JP. You dun have to buy from them if you dun find the design u fancy, but I,m sure you won't walk out of JP empty handed... I learnt slot about diamond... *diamond is not only about 4Cs.... ;) here.s many other considerations which can make a diamond look good ;)

I happened to come across Michael Trio's Facebook page and suggested my sister who is getting married next year to go down to Michael Trio to have a look on her wedding rings. My sister and i was impressed with the great services they provide. The staff was knowledgeable in providing us information about diamonds rings. As my sister had a design in mind for her wedding ring, Michael Trio is able to do the ring for her at a very good price. Anyway, I would recommend other people to consider Michael Trio to buy their rings and other kind of jewellery.

Try Josi Gems at Park Mall or Canary Diamonds at Delfi. For the former, better to go with a design in mind. For the latter, got many designs in store and hidden in storeroom at back but can be more expensive than former.

I share your sentiment. I used to buy from commercial jewellers but when I had a pair earrings appraised in HongKong and Dubai, I felt cheated coz the value was really lower than expected..

Anyway, I highly recommend The Jewel Box at Shaw Centre. They do customization of rings. High-quality gold and diamonds plus highly commendable customer service.
